The injury marred the Bears' impressive win over the Chiefs

The Chicago Bears will hope to give an update on the health of Douglas Coleman III later today after the cornerback was taken from the field in an ambulance during the pre-season game against the Kansas City Chiefs.

Coleman suffered the injury on the first play from scrimmage in the second half of the Bears’ 34-21 win at Arrowhead Stadium.

The 26-year-old tackled the Chiefs’ Cornell Powell with his head up but his neck bent awkwardly on impact and he immediately fell to the ground motionless.

Medical teams from both sides rushed on and, after lengthy treatment, Coleman was placed on a backboard and taken from the field to hospital.

Bears coach Matt Eberflus could only provide limited details when asked about the player’s condition afterwards, telling reporters: “When I was on the field, over there on the Chiefs sideline, he was moving his limbs and gave us a thumbs-up.

“That was good to see. I don’t have anything more. He’s at the hospital right now being evaluated.”
