United States defender Sergino Dest is excited about the potential of the national team under Mauricio Pochettino.
The former Chelsea and Tottenham manager is set to take up the role of head coach ahead of the 2026 World Cup on home soil.
Pochettino parted ways with the Blues at the end of the last Premier League campaign but has a fine reputation for developing players and building projects.
He did a fine job with both Southampton and Tottenham, reaching the Champions League final with the latter.
And Dest cannot wait to see what he can do.
Speaking to ESPN, he said: “Yeah, it is [exciting]. Obviously, he’s been a coach for big cubs and he’s a well-known coach. That will be a nice experience to train under him.
Mauricio Pochettino has agreed to become the new United States coach with the responsibility of leading the team into the 2026 World Cup, a source told ESPN on Thursday.

“We’ll see and hopefully it can help all of us … to have a really great result at the 2026 World Cup, you know? Because we are the home country.
“We need to take it step by step because he is not there yet.”
Pochettino’s appointment has not been officially announced but it is expected he will be confirmed as Gregg Berhalter’s replacement.
He is believed to be in line to lead the USMNT against Mexico in a friendly on 15 October.
Dest added: “Yeah, everybody’s waiting [to hear whether Pochettino is official].
“I haven’t been with the team in the last camp because obviously I’m injured so I have nothing to do there, but I will go probably in the near future, in October camp or November.
“I try to be with the team and will ask them to stay there with the chemistry and everything, to support them.”
