Five of the best bets for the 2024-25 NFL season

There is plenty to take a punt on ahead of the new NFL season.

NFL

So much can change in a single summer for the NFL, making it hard to predict what lies ahead for every team when the new season rolls around.

New teams will emerge as Super Bowl contenders, while fan favourites will sink into the mud despite looking promising during pre-season.

Either way, there is plenty available to punt on if you want to raise the stakes between now and February.

Read on as we pick out our five best bets for the new NFL campaign.

All odds are provided by bet365 and correct at the time of writing on 2 September 2024.

Super Bowl Winners: Kansas City Chiefs (11/2)

This may seem like the easy pick, but there are no guarantees when it comes to winning the Super Bowl.

Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs are looking to win their third consecutive title and establish themselves as one of the NFL’s greatest dynasties under Andy Reid.

They sit at 11/2 to go back-to-back-to-back and lift the Lombardi trophy in New Orleans.

The Chiefs are the favourites, and it will take a very good team to dethrone them, even if they do not have the best team on paper.

Mahomes and Co know how to win, like Tom Brady and the New England Patriots knew how to do.

But if you are looking for some outsiders, the Cincinnati Bengals at 12/1 and the Baltimore Ravens at 9/1 are two other teams who will be there or thereabout.

MVP: Patrick Mahomes (5/1)

This tip goes hand-in-hand with our pick to win the Super Bowl but Mahomes is the heartbeat of this exceptional Chiefs team.

It would not be surprising to see him claim a third-season MVP award.

He already has three Super Bowl MVP awards and should he take the team back to the final next February, he is likely going to be a shoo-in again.

With 27 touchdowns and over 4000 yards last term, the only thing stopping Mahomes from being a contender for MVP is himself.

Joe Burrow may be a strong contender to compete with the Chiefs quarterback at 9/1, while reigning MVP Lamar Jackson is 16/1 to retain his title.

Offensive Rookie of the Year: Jayden Daniels (9/2)

With No.1 draft pick Caleb Williams sitting at about evens to become the Offensive Rookie of the Year, it may be worth punting on the No.2 pick in Jayden Daniels.

The Washington Commanders QB is second favourite at 9/2 and is the current holder of the Heisman Trophy after throwing 40 touchdowns in his final college season.

He is an incredibly hot prospect and if he can somehow lead the Commanders into the play-offs, he will be a strong contender for the award.

Marvin Harrison Jr. of the Arizona Cardinals is another strong shout, the No.4 draft pick sits at 6/1.

Bo Nix at 8/1 could also prove to be a decent outside bet, but he may struggle to click with the Denver Broncos offence straight away.

To make play-offs: Arizona Cardinals or Washington Commanders (3/1)

It is always difficult to call who will be in the play-offs and who will miss out, but two decent picks come in the form of the Arizona Cardinals and Washington Commanders.

The Cardinals used the No.4 pick of the draft to bring in Harrison Jr. and if he can hook up with Kyler Murray, there will be fireworks.

Recruitment has been a positive in Arizona during the off-season and there is every chance that the Cardinals will live up the hype in the NFC West.

The same can be said of the Commanders.

Daniels has already been tipped by us as a potential Rookie of the Year and if he can integrate quickly and help his side get off to a winning start, there may be a place in the post-season for Washington.

NFC West exact order: 49ers, Cardinals, Rams, Seahawks (10/1)

This one is perhaps a tad risky, but the quality of the four teams in the NFC West stands out as more predictable than the rest.

The San Francisco 49ers are another hot favourite to win the Super Bowl and will likely take the top spot in the West, while the Seattle Seahawks have the weakest team overall.

It’s who will finish second and third that gives value to this bet at 10/1.

The Cardinals’ recruitment over the summer has been very good and they will fancy themselves in Arizona to take one of the top two spots.

But the Los Angeles Rams are no pushovers and with the likes of Cooper Kupp, Puka Nacua and Matthew Stafford on the roster, there could be a good season in store for the Rams.
