Dak Prescott has agreed terms on a four-year, $240million contract extension with the Dallas Cowboys that will see the quarterback become the highest-paid player in NFL history.
The Cowboys announced the news just hours before the season-opener in Cleveland against the Browns. The franchise now head into the 2024 campaign with their two star players – Prescott and wide receiver CeeDee Lamb – contracted until 2028.

The saga around Prescott’s deal has dominated the news agenda in Dallas throughout pre-season but there was always confidence it would get done.
Sources told ESPN the deal includes $231m guaranteed, $1m more in guaranteed money than the Browns’ agreement with Deshaun Watson.
His annual salary of $60m also surpasses those handed out to the likes of Joe Burrow, Jordan Love and Trevor Lawrence.
The 31-year-old Prescott threw for 4,516 yards last season as he finished second in NFL MVP voting behind Lamar Jackson.
He has thrown for 29,459 yards during his Cowboys career and 202 touchdowns.

Speaking earlier this week, Prescott said money was not the driving factor when it comes to contract negotiations.
He said: “I’ve never played the game for that. I’ve played a game for the pure love for the guys in that locker room. Yes, this game has always brought me something that not a lot of things in life do. That type of peace, it does. Just being out there in between the lines with people that you share a brotherhood with.
“Yeah, something that’s just special about this game of football and we’re just blessed that that money comes with it, and I’m in the position that I’m in that we can be having these conversations.
“But that doesn’t motivate me.”
