Aaron Rodgers frustrated with ‘giveaway’ as New York Jets find a way to lose again

The Jets have a new coach but the same problems after slumping to a home defeat to the Buffalo Bills

Aaron Rodgers bemoaned another “giveaway” as the New York Jets slumped to 2-4 with a 23-20 defeat to the Buffalo Bills on MNF.

The decision to fire Robert Saleh and replace him with interim coach Jeff Ulbrich failed to pay off, at least immediately, as the Jets suffered the same frustrations they have done for much of the season.

For the third straight week, they went into their final possession with the chance to win the game but Rodgers could not get it done as the Bills held on to move to 4-2.

He threw for a season-high 294 yards but too many missed opportunities – particularly in the red zone – proved his, and the Jets’, undoing.

“We need to get going,” he said. “This was a golden opportunity. Some games you win in the NFL, and some games you give away. This was a giveaway.

“I thought we were going to have a big night on offense. Again, this should have been a 30-plus point game on offense, and this shouldn’t even be a conversation.

“It’s frustrating. I’m here to win those games.”

Rodgers got the ball at his 30-yard line with 3:43 left in the game but a sloppy drive that included a sack and two Jets penalties eventually ended with a pass intended for Mike Williams being picked off by Taron Johnson.

The Jets’ pre-season hopes are already slipping away but a bullish Ulbrich insisted there was still time for them to make a playoff run.

“We are by no means out of this thing. By no means,” Ulbrich said. “I know the character of that locker room. I know the way we will respond. We have to start stacking these weeks of exceptional preparation. I promise you it will start to pay off on Sundays.”
