Chiefs place kicker Harrison Butker on IR

Shrader will play against the Bills on Sunday

Harrison Butker

The Kansas City Chiefs are 9-0 and yet not without problems.

Already shorn of a number of key offensive weapons through injury, the defending NFL champions have suffered another setback with the news kicker Harrison Butker is going on injured reserve.

Butker, who is 18-of-20 on field goal attempts and 21-of-22 on point after attempts this season, will miss at least the next four games while he has arthroscopic surgery on his left knee.

The Chiefs moved swiftly to replace him by signing Spencer Shrader off the New York Jets’ practice squad.

Shrader, who has also played one game for the Indianapolis Colts this season, made both field goal attempts for the Jets against the Arizona Cardinals last weekend to earn the praise of special teams coach Brant Boyer.

Speaking before he departed for Kansas City, Boyer said: “Kid’s got a lot of talent.

“I think he handled it really well in doing what we asked him to do and syncing up with those guys and doing a great job in the game, for sure.”

The Chiefs visit the Buffalo Bills on Sunday evening.
