New York Jets have reportedly fired general manager Joe Douglas after their latest loss to the Indianapolis Colts, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
The Jets are enduring a chaotic NFL season with Douglas the latest to be let go after head coach Robert Saleh was dismissed in October.
Their 28-27 loss to the Colts means they are currently 3-8 for the season and 1-5 under interim boss Jeff Ulbrich.
Douglas, 48, signed a six-year contract to become the Jets GM in June 2019. Since then, New York has a record of 30-64 with zero playoff appearances, continuing a drought that dates back to 2010.
New York had aspirations of the Super Bowl at the start of the season after quarter-back Aaron Rodgers’ long-awaited return from an Achilles injury.
Instead, their offence ranks in the NFL for scoring (18.5 ppg) and yards (294.4).

Shefter is reporting that former Browns general manager Phil Savage as their interim general manager.
Douglas’ recruits during his time as general manager include offensive linemen Alijah Vera-Tucker and Olu Fashanu, safety Michael Carter, cornerback Sauce Gardner, wide receiver Garrett Wilson, pass rusher Jermaine Johnson, running back Breece Hall, and linebacker Will McDonald.
But he has also not been without his misses, such as when he selected quarterback Zach Wilson second overall in 2021.
Douglas was also heavily involved in the process to bring Rodgers to the MetLife Stadium last season. In total, the Jets received Rodgers, the Green Bay Packers’ first-round pick in 2023 (selecting Will McDonald), and their fifth-round pick in 2023.
