NBA: Cavaliers record 17th win against Raptors

The Cavaliers have only lost one game in the new NBA season so far.

Cleveland Cavaliers

The Cleveland Cavaliers secured a commanding 122-108 victory over the Toronto Raptors on Sunday.

Ty Jerome delivered an impressive performance off the bench with 26 points, while Jarrett Allen and Evan Mobley each recorded double-doubles.

Jerome has now scored at least 24 points in three of his last four outings.

Donovan Mitchell also added 26 points to the effort, with Allen having a great night with 23 points and 13 rebounds.

Mobley rounded out his strong showing with 14 points and 11 rebounds.

For the Raptors, Scottie Barnes and Gradey Dick each tallied 18 points to lead their team.

Jakob Poeltl made his presence felt with 12 points and a game-high 19 rebounds, while RJ Barrett chipped in 16 points, six rebounds, and six assists.

But unfortunately, it did not matter and Toronto have now dropped eight of its last 10 games.

The Cavaliers held a narrow 94-90 lead late in the third quarter when Mobley’s dunk with just 0.8 seconds remaining sparked a crucial 12-1 run.

Jerome capped the surge with one of his four three-pointers, pushing Cleveland’s lead to 106-91 with 9.23 left in the game.

Mitchell took over in the fourth quarter, connecting on five of eight shots and scoring 11 points to help Cleveland extend its advantage.

A basket by Isaac Okoro from close range stretched the Cavaliers’ lead to 17 points, their largest of the night, with 8.30 remaining.

The Raptors briefly held a 2-0 lead to start the game, but it was their only advantage the entire night.

The Cavaliers shot an impressive 65.2% from the field in the opening period, compared to Toronto’s 36%, and ended the first quarter ahead 38-16.

Toronto fought back in the second quarter, with Jamison Battle scoring 11 of his 13 points during that stretch.

Ochai Abaji’s floater cut Cleveland’s lead to 50-46 with 3.20 remaining in the half.

However, the Cavaliers regained momentum and carried a 65-55 lead into half-time.

In the first half, Jerome scored 17 points, and Allen added 15 to pace the Cavaliers. Dick led Toronto’s effort with 12 points.

Cleveland outscored Toronto 64-42 in the paint, while also converting 16 of their 41 three-point attempts to seal the victory.
