NFL: Mahomes not happy with Chiefs after another close-call against Raiders

The Chiefs got the job done but once again looked far from their best.

The Kansas City Chiefs continued their trend of thrilling finishes this season, narrowly escaping with a victory in their Week 13 matchup against the Las Vegas Raiders.

The game came down to the wire, with Raiders quarterback Aiden O’Connell orchestrating a late drive into Chiefs territory.

Down 19-17 with under two minutes remaining, Las Vegas appeared poised for a potential upset.

On a crucial third-and-3 with just 14 seconds left, the game took a dramatic turn.

Raiders center Jackson Powers-Johnson snapped the ball unexpectedly, catching O’Connell off guard and resulting in a fumble. The Chiefs recovered, securing their 14th consecutive one-possession victory.

“Obviously, a big stop in a big moment,” said Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes.

“It got us the win there. But I mean, we got to execute better in the fourth quarter so that it doesn’t come down to that.

“We’re not satisfied with where we’re at even though we’re winning football games.

“We know we have to get better. I think everybody in that locker knows we have to get better.

“We want to go out there and do that and prove that. So, our goal over these last few games is to prove that we are the team we believe we really are going into the playoffs.

“We just hold ourselves to such a high standard that we don’t feel like we’re playing our best football altogether.

“It seems like every game it’s either offense does good or defense does good.

“We got to find a way to build up so that we can play great as a full, entire team. It’s awesome that we’re finding ways to get wins — at the end of the day, that’s what you’re going for — but our goal is to get to that Super Bowl.

“We’re going to try to continue to get better and better so that we’re playing our best football hopefully by the end of the year.”
