Aaron Rodgers says New York Jets ‘don’t know what I bring’ if last five games decide future

The Jets are third in the AFC East

New York Jets NFL player Aaron Rodgers

Aaron Rodgers has dismissed suggestions that the final five games of the NFL season could decide his future at the New York Jets and suggested he is open to staying with the team.

Quarterback Rodgers is out of contract in 2025 and has been part of a turbulent Jets campaign on his return from a long-term injury, including the sackings of head coach Robert Saleh and general manager Joe Douglas.

“There’ll be a conversation at some point and if they say they want to move on, that’s great, fantastic,” said the 41-year-old. “If they want me to play, I’ll consider it. If they want me to stay, fantastic.

“If it takes these five games, maybe they don’t know what I bring to the table. But that being said, I’d love to play really well in the last five games.”

The Jets are 3-9 and will be mathematically unable to reach the play-offs if they lose at the Miami Dolphins, who have won their last two home games, on Sunday.

Rodgers was a four-time NFL Most Valuable Player and a Super Bowl champion with the Green Bay Packers between 2005 and 2022 but is now part of a team on the verge of failing to extend their season for the 14th straight year.

The Cincinnati Bengals are the only other team to have gone that long without making the play-offs during the 21st century.

Aaron Rodgers ‘won’t be offended’ by Jets

“I just redid my house here in Jersey so my goal was to play a few more years here, but we’ll see,” said Rodgers. “I’d like to be healthy, I’d like to end on my feet and then I’d like to play well.

“I’d like to feel like I’m wanted back. If not, I will not be offended; I won’t be upset. I’ll be so thankful whatever happens here.

“I have to be healthy mentally, physically, and then there’s got to be interest on both sides. And if that’s not the case, then I’ll look at other options, but first I’ll think about whether I actually want to play or not.

“It usually takes a good month to get away from it, which I’ll do the first month, and then see what happens. I love football.

“I don’t need a lot of motivation or inspiration from the outside world. I wake up, I love what I’m doing, I’m grateful to still be playing. I want to go out and compete and light up a defense every day.”
