NFL: Raiders HC Antonio Pierce Says Week 16 Win Was “Long Overdue”

"Obviously, you don't want to go through what we went through over the last ten weeks, but that's behind us," Pierce said.

Las Vegas Raiders head coach Antonio Pierce bends over with his hands on his knees.

The Las Vegas Raiders triumphed over the Jacksonville Jaguars by a final score of 19-14 for the team’s third win of the season.

In the franchise’s post-game press conference, head coach Antonio Pierce joked that the team’s first win since September 29th was “long overdue.”

“It was good to see all of those smiling faces from our players, our staff, everybody involved in the organization,” Pierce explained. “Obviously, you don’t want to go through what we went through over the last ten weeks, but that’s behind us. I thought it was a great win.”

Pierce then talked about how the game being in Vegas impacted the outcome.

“It was a great job by our home crowd,” Pierce said. “I thought they were very loud. They were active. That was positive for our defense, especially in certain situations, and I thought it was very efficient by our team.”

When described as a “team win,” Pierce expressed that he was glad a reporter brought that up.

“We had the win in Baltimore, and I thought that was a big win. But, from a team standpoint, where you needed everybody from every aspect to really step up,” Pierce said. “It doesn’t matter if it’s their first game being active, all of these guys really poured their hearts into it. What I loved about it, throughout the ups and downs of the game, it was just very positive. You could see them celebrating with one another, and the joy they have with one another. That’s what it’s always been about, and it was good to put it on display with a win.”

While the Raiders are probably overjoyed to snap their ten-game losing streak, fans may not be as excited. With the win, Las Vegas went from having the second overall pick in the draft to the sixth overall pick in the draft, meaning they might not have a chance to draft a top-flight quarterback this spring. Only time will tell how much of an effect this win has on the Raiders’ future, but it’s possible that this victory might end up doing more long-term harm than good if the Raiders can’t draft a quarterback in April.
