After the Seattle Seahawks beat the Chicago Bears to keep their slim play-off hopes intact, five spots remain up for grabs in the 2024 season.

Nine teams already know they will extend their season, while 13 have been eliminated and five of the eight division titles are yet to be decided.

The wildcard playoffs will confirm who proceeds to the division playoffs, championship showdowns and Super Bowl LIX in New Orleans.

Here’s how the NFL playoff picture looks after the Thursday Night Football match on December 26 2024.

AFC playoff picture

The Kansas City Chiefs, Buffalo Bills and Houston Texans are guaranteed to be in the play-offs.

The Pittsburgh Steelers and Baltimore Ravens are certain to join them post-season, while the Los Angeles Chargers and Denver Broncos are on course to be involved.

The Miami Dolphins, Cincinnati Bengals and Indianapolis Colts all have an outside chance.

The New York Jets, Cleveland Browns, Jacksonville Jaguars, Tennessee Titans, Las Vegas Raiders and New England Patriots have been eliminated.

NFC playoff picture

The Detroit Lions, Philadelphia Eagles, Minnesota Vikings and Green Bay Packers are all in the play-offs, with the Packers the only team who cannot win their division.

The Los Angeles Rams, Atlanta Falcons and Washington Commanders are all on track to be in the play-offs as matters stand, while the Seattle Seahawks and  Tampa Bay Buccaneers remain hopeful.

The Dallas Cowboys, Arizona Cardinals, San Francisco 49ers, New Orleans Saints, Carolina Panthers, Chicago Bears and New York Giants are out of the running.

When are the NFL playoffs?

The wildcard playoffs will take place between January 11-13, followed by the divisional playoffs on January 18 and 19.

The NFC and AFC championship games will be held on January 26.

When is Super Bowl LIX?

The showpiece match of the season will take place at the Superdome in New Orleans on February 9.

The Chiefs, who are the defending champions after beating the 49ers last time out, are the slight favourites to prevail again, closely followed by the Lions and Bills.
