Black Monday: New York Giants make decision on Daboll and Schoen

The Giants slumped to a 3-14 record this season

Brian Daboll

Brian Daboll survived Black Monday after he and general manager Joe Schoen were retained by the New York Giants despite a 3-14 season.

Daboll and Schoen have presided over three largely disappointing years with the Giants but president John Mara says he remains “confident” the pair can lead the team to success in 2025.

In a statement released this morning, Mara said: “Now that our season is over, we felt it necessary to make this statement.

“Joe Schoen and Brian Daboll will continue in their respective roles with the organization. As disappointing as the results of the season have been, [team chairman Steve] Tisch and I remain confident in the process that Joe and Brian have implemented and their vision for our team.

“We look forward to the future and the results we all desire.”

Giants getting gradually worse

Mara has repeatedly stood by Daboll but his patience is likely to have been tested by another season of regression. In his first season at the helm, the Giants went 9-7-1 but could only manage a 6-11 record in 2023.

This season has been even worse, rounded off by yesterday’s 20-13 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles.

The decision to keep Daboll and Schoen was backed by outside linebacker Brian Burns, who told ESPN: “I would like some stability. I would like [Daboll] and Joe and everybody to stay so we can get rolling next year without having to start a whole new regime and a whole new everything.”
