NFL: Eagles Manhandle Packers To Advance To Divisional Round

Philly forced Green Bay to turn the ball over four times.

Green Bay Packers kick returner Keisean Nixon fumbles the football.

The Philadelphia Eagles beat the Green Bay Packers 22-10 to move on to the Divisional Round of the playoffs. This was Philly’s first postseason victory since January 29th, 2023 when they beat the San Francisco 49ers in the NFC Championship Game.

Following the win, the Eagles will either host the Tampa Bay Buccaneers or the winner of the Minnesota Vikings-Los Angeles Rams game in the next round.

The Packers made several mistakes throughout the game, which wound up costing them their season. Green Bay was flagged eight times for 85 yards, missed a field goal, and turned the ball over four times. The Pack were also decimated by injuries, losing their best lineman, their starting running back, their starting center, their top two receivers, and a defensive lineman in the game.

Green Bay looked completely overmatched from the start, fumbling the opening kickoff, which led to the Eagles scoring a touchdown on an 11-yard reception by wide receiver Jahan Dotson to give Philly a 7-0 lead with 13:21 left in the first quarter. That was Dotson’s first TD of the season and his first touchdown reception since November 19th, 2023.

Philadelphia’s rushing attack pounded the Packers’ defense for 169 yards on the day. On Philly’s third possession, the offense gained 43 yards on the ground, resulting in a 31-yard field goal and a 10-0 Eagles lead to start the second quarter. Philly dominated the first quarter, outgaining the Packers 103 yards to 16.

Though they were held to 13 yards on their first two possessions, Green Bay finally got things going and advanced the ball to Philly’s 20 yard line. The Eagles’ defense stood strong though, forcing a field goal attempt that was missed by Green Bay kicker Brandon McManus, the first miss of his postseason career and just his second miss of the season.

One of the Packers’ biggest plays of the day came about halfway through the third quarter when quarterback Jordan Love connected with wide receiver Dontayvion Wicks for 29 yards. A defensive pass interference gave Green Bay possession on Philly’s eight yard line. However, the Eagles’ defense held on to force a field goal, making it 10-3.

Green Bay’s defense actually did a good job containing the Eagles’ electric offense. After Philly went up 10-0, the offense punted on four straight possessions and was held to only 24 yards. That changed in the third quarter when the Eagles put together a 68-yard drive capped off with a 24-yard catch-and-run by tight end Dallas Goedert to increase the lead to 16-3.

Running back Josh Jacobs appeared to be the only player on Green Bay’s offense that came to play. Before leaving the game with an injury, the former Las Vegas Raider amassed 121 total yards and a touchdown. Jacobs’ Marshawn-Lynch-like 31-yard run at the end of the third quarterback set up the Packers’ first touchdown of the day to cut the lead to 16-10 very early in the fourth quarter. This was Jacobs’ ninth straight game with a rushing touchdown, a Packers franchise record.

Jalen Hurts had an underwhelming yet effective game. Hurts completed 13 of 21 passes for 131 yards, two touchdowns, and 36 rushing yards. He had 45 total yards on Philly’s first fourth-quarter possession, which led to a field goal to extend the Eagles’ lead to 19-10. Philly would close out the game with another field goal for the 22-10 win.

Meanwhile, Jordan Love played a completely uninspired game. He threw three interceptions and was held to 212 passing yards on 20 completions. This was Love’s first game with an interception since Week 11 and his first multi-interception game since October 20th, 2024.

With the loss, the Packers end the 2024-25 campaign on a three-game losing streak.
