NFL: Chiefs Coach Andy Reid Thinks His Team “Did A Nice Job” In Divisional Round

"It was good to get back in the swing of things," he said.

Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid walks out of the tunnel with his team.

The Kansas City Chiefs defeated the Houston Texans 23-12 to advance to the AFC Championship Game. This marks the seventh consecutive year that KC has made it to the AFC Championship.

Chiefs head coach Andy Reid mentioned how he was happy that his team was able to get out to a quick start after a bye week during the Wild Card Round.

“It was good to get back in the swing of things,” he said during the team’s post-game press conference. ” I thought the guys knocked a little rust off early, kept working, and then finished up strong.”

Reid then got right into things, heaping praise onto his defense, which only gave up 12 points while recording eight sacks.

“I thought our defense did an outstanding job,” he commented. “George [Karlaftis] led us with three sacks, but there were eight team sacks overall. That doesn’t normally happen against a great offense like they’ve got. My hat goes off to Spags [Steve Spagnuolo]. The plan he had, and then, again, the players for executing.”

Andy Reid then recognized the performance of his offensive unit, which was led by Future Hall of Famers Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce.

“We probably need to start with Trav [Travis Kelce], with seven catches for 117 yards and a touchdown,” he said with a smirk. “That’s why he’s the greatest tight end there’s been… It was all good.”

When questioned why his teams have always seemed to come up big in big moments, Reid chuckled.

“They’re good players that love to play the game,” he said. “We’re sitting here, and it’s that time of the year. Guys stepped up and did just a nice job.”

Next week, the Chiefs will play host to the winner of the Baltimore Ravens-Buffalo Bills game scheduled for January 19th.
