Detroit Lions wide receiver Jameson Williams has praised the “big” contribution of the team’s coaches after a 40-34 win at the San Francisco 49ers on Monday Night Football gave them a perfect road record for the first time in their history.

The Lions have gone 8-0 on their travels this season, helped by a rushing touchdown and receiving touchdown on their first two drives of the game from Williams, who lauded offensive co-ordinator Ben Johnson.

“We just focus on coming out every Sunday, Monday, Thursday or whatever it is and getting the job done,” said the 23-year-old.

“Hopefully we can do it again next year and the year after that. I just say to teams, when we come to you, be prepared – because we’re playing.

“Shoutout to the mastermind Ben – he’s behind all of this. He spends so much time in his office, I’ve talked to him a lot of times. He just lets me know what he sees all the time.”

Detroit Lions: Johnson ‘helps us a lot’

After the Indianapolis Colts in 2004, Detroit are the second offense in NFL history to have four players with at least 1,000 scrimmage yards and seven touchdowns in a season.

Williams and fellow receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown have been joined by running backs Jahmyr Gibbs and David Montgomery in achieving the feat.

“[Johnson] tries to spread the ball as much as possible,” said Williams. “We’ve got 4,000 yards on the offense – that’s almost all of our skill positions.

“We’ll probably get our tight end in there next week. I respect the work [Johnson] does and all the time he puts in; I respect all of the time all of the coaches put into it. It’s big and helps us a lot.”

Detroit Lions vs Minnesota Vikings

The Lions will face the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday Night Football (8.20pm ET) for the NFC North Divisional Crown and the number-one seed in the NFC.

Quarterback Jared Goff, who combined with San Francisco counterpart Brock Purdy for 690 total yards and seven total touchdowns, was born in California and grew up as a 49ers fan.

“It’s very cool for me, being home in front of my family and friends and having an experience like that,” he said. “The us-against-everybody mentality, how tight this group is, how close we are – that comes out in full force in the road.

“[It’s about] our culture, how prideful we are in what we want to do. Our fans have turned up and made them feel like semi-home games, and that’s important. Our fans have been unbelievable all year on the road – it’s remarkable, what they’ve done.

“There is something to be said for keeping a [two-game current] winning streak going. You don’t want to lose a game and have to restart that.

“The Vikings are on a [nine-game] winning streak and so are we. That’s what’s important about winning [our next] game.”
