Dallas Cowboys defensive end Marshawn Kneeland will be out for between four and six weeks rather than missing the rest of the season with an injury to his right knee, according to a report.
Kneeland was hurt during a challenge with quarterback Justin Fields during the fourth defensive play of the Cowboys’ 20-17 win over the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday.
An MRI scan on Monday showed that Kneeland’s anterior cruciate ligament remains intact, an ESPN source said, adding that Kneeland requires arthroscopic surgery for a meniscus tear.

Marshawn Kneeland injury
The 23-year-old has been placed on the injured reserve list and could return in mid-November, the outlet said of the second-round pick.
“Thank you to everyone who reached out,” Kneeland told his social media followers, sharing a photo of himself being driven off the field. “Be back soon.”
Dallas coach Mike McCarthy sounded optimistic in the immediate aftermath of the game. “I talked to Marshawn briefly,” he said.
“Until we get him scanned and everything, we’re not truly going to know. It’s the first time he’s had a knee injury. He’s in good spirits.”

Steelers vs Cowboys
There was drama before the Sunday Night Football game had begun when lightning caused the start to be delayed by more than an hour.
Fans were told to vacate their seats as torrential rain poured down on Pittsburgh’s Acrisure Stadium, where thunderstorms were forecast.
“You had all kinds of things going on out there today,” said McCarthy. “It’s been a long day. We really just kept the players posted.
“They took their pads off and everyone got comfortable. There was music… they stayed loose. The 15-minute warm-up was perfect.
“No-one really blinked, and it showed in the way we came out. We wanted to take the ball and get up and get going. Our guys handled it very well.”
