Jefferson pays tribute to Randy Moss as Vikings beat Bears

The Vikings honored the great Randy Moss in the win over the Bears

Randy Moss

Justin Jefferson paid tribute to Randy Moss after scoring a touchdown in the Minnesota Vikings’ 30-12 win over the Chicago Bears.

Jefferson connected with a Sam Darnold throw in the first quarter before picking out the nearest camera and shouting “We love you Randy, that’s for you.”

Moss, a former Pro Football Hall of Fame wide receiver with 156 catches to his name, announced last week he had undergone surgery to remove a cancerous mass in his bile duct.

Jefferson revealed he grew up watching Moss and was eager to send his own message of support.

“I’m grateful for what he has done for this game,” Jefferson said while wearing a purple replica Moss jersey. “And what he has done for me as a kid. Just watching him and being a fan of him, I’ve always got to show love to him.”

Moss responds to coin toss tribute

Cris Carter and Jake Reed, two of Moss’ former teammates, performed the coin toss as honorary captains with Moss recognizing the act with a tweet that simply read: “Luv U All.”

Jefferson added: “It was amazing seeing those guys. Those are the guys before us. Those are the big three before me, [Jalen] Naylor and [Jordan] Addison came in.

“They were brothers when they were playing and still are. It’s great to see the amount of love they still have for each other.”

Love in the building

Vikings coach Kevin O’Connell, whose team are now 12-2 in the NFC North after registering a seventh straight win, hoped Moss enjoyed a performance that had all the hallmarks of a team that could go deep in the postseason.

He said: “You could feel the love for him in the building tonight.

“He means the world to this organization. His name is up in the rafters in the Ring of Honor, He’s a Hall of Famer and we’re behind him every step of the way.

“We just wanted to do whatever we could with the platform of Monday Night Football. Hopefully, he was watching and if it gave him any joy at all, it was well worth it because that’s how we feel about him.”
