The Las Vegas Raiders have fired offensive co-ordinator Luke Getsy, offensive line coach James Cregg and quarterbacks coach Rich Scangarello after the trio’s dire start to their first season continued with a 41-24 defeat at the Cincinnati Bengals in the NFL on Sunday.

No team has a worse record than the three-time Super Bowl champions’ run of 2-7, including five consecutive defeats for the first time since 2018.

“We’ve all got to find a way to do better,” Raiders coach Antonio Pierce said after the Raiders’ latest loss, in which the Bengals scored three touchdowns without reply across the second and third quarters.

“We want to pinpoint from this game and look at a lot of things, from coaches to playcalling to players to execution to situations that we all can do a much better job [in].

“[We want to] put ourselves in a position to get into the fourth quarter and actually have a chance to win – not always playing catch-up.”

Luke Getsy record

Getsy, who was fired by the Chicago Bears last season, has overseen an average of less than 19 points and little more than 280 yards per game with the Raiders.

“It’s a team effort, bro,” the former Green Bay Packers coach said less than two weeks ago. “I really believe that.

“I think the inconsistencies are dissipating, I really do. Every week it gets a little bit better and better. The mindset of what the objective is is getting clearer every week.”

Raiders quarterbacks Gardner Minshew and Aidan O’Connell were not expected to shine at the start of the season, and they have since signed Desmond Ridder, who replaced Minshew late in the third quarter against Cincinnati.

Pressure is now certain to grow on Pierce, whose task was not helped by wide receiver Davante Adams agitating for a trade last month before joining the New York Jets.

Pierce ended last season by going 5-4 as interim coach but will inevitably face scrutiny over his plans to give greater respectability to the Raiders’ season when he faces the media on Monday.

The Raiders have a bye week before heading to the Miami Dolphins, who are 2-6 after losing 30-27 at the Buffalo Bills, on November 17 (1pm ET).
