NFL: Buffalo Bills eye No.1 seed after clinching AFC East

The Bills are looking to put themselves in the best position possible to win the Super Bowl.

Buffalo Bills

Buffalo Bills head coach Sean McDermott is aiming for the No.1 play-off seed after clinching the AFC East.

The Bills’ control over the AFC East is unmatched. While Buffalo boasts 10 victories, the rest of the division has managed a combined total of just 11 wins.

The Miami Dolphins, at 5-7, are the closest competitor, but the Bills have already beaten them twice this season and hold a commanding five-game lead in the division standings.

Speaking on the achievement, McDermott said: “It’s always hard to do, so you’ll take it whenever you get it, whether it’s the last week of the season or this early in the season.

“I think the biggest thing is, I’m going to give you a coach’s view on it, is where we go from here, right? How do we reset?

“Certainly, enjoy this. Like I said to the team, you know, being 50 years old, 20-plus years in this league, I’ve learned to try and enjoy the moments. This is a moment, right?

“And then after that, tomorrow, move forward and turn the page.

“Because, as you know, as we talk about a lot, it’s a week-to-week league, and you’ve got to bring your A-game.

“For us, it’s continuing to develop and grow in the areas we need to develop in and take those necessary steps.”

With the division secured, the Bills now shift their attention to a new goal: claiming the top seed in the AFC.

“It’s probably the next goal for us, right? Is to position ourselves the best we can,” McDermott added.

“We control a piece of that, and then some of that we don’t. So it’s really about our level of play every week, getting to the level it needs to be at, and that usually puts you in a good spot.”

The Kansas City Chiefs remain the biggest obstacle in Buffalo’s path.

Despite struggling with consistency, the Chiefs have only suffered one loss this season — against the Bills.

The Chiefs have repeatedly escaped with narrow victories, whether through blocked kicks, fortuitous penalties, or crucial mistakes by their opponents.

While the Bills can’t control what happens with the Chiefs, they’ve proven themselves as a formidable contender for the Super Bowl.

Buffalo has won seven straight games, scored 30 or more points in six consecutive matchups, and shown they are in with a shout of lifting the Lombardi Trophy.
