NFL: Chiefs trading with Titans for DeAndre Hopkins

The Chiefs are signing another wide receiver.

The Tennessee Titans and Kansas City Chiefs are in the final stages of negotiations for a trade that would send wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins to the Chiefs, according to ESPN.

The Titans are expected to receive a conditional fourth-round pick in return, with the deal expected to be completed by close-of-play on Wednesday.

The Chiefs have been searching for wide receiver help since Rashee Rice suffered a season-ending knee injury during Week 4.

This injury followed other setbacks in their receiving ranks, including Marquise “Hollywood” Brown’s shoulder injury during the preseason and JuJu Smith-Schuster’s hamstring injury last week.

Smith-Schuster is already ruled out for their upcoming game against the Las Vegas Raiders, making help for Andy Reid essential.

Hopkins, a 12-year veteran, is in the final season of a two-year contract he signed with the Titans back in July 2013.

After suffering a torn MCL during the offseason, he made a timely recovery for the season opener.

So far this season, Hopkins has recorded 15 receptions for 173 yards and one touchdown in six games.

A five-time Pro Bowler, Hopkins has previously played for the Houston Texans and the Arizona Cardinals and his trade to Kansas would provide quarterback Patrick Mahomes with a significant new target.

The Chiefs’ top healthy receivers, rookie Xavier Worthy and Justin Watson, have only a combined 22 receptions through Week 7.

They have a great record of securing successful trades before the deadline.

In 2022, the champions traded with the New York Giants for Kadarius Toney, who scored a touchdown and set up another with a pivotal 65-yard punt return during the Chiefs’ Super Bowl LVII victory over the Philadelphia Eagles.

Last year, they traded for Mecole Hardman from the New York Jets, and Hardman went on to catch the game-winning touchdown in overtime of Super Bowl LVIII against the San Francisco 49ers.
