Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Marquise Brown is set to undergo surgery for a sternoclavicular injury.
It will likely rule the 27-year-old out for months and possibly the season, according to head coach Andy Reid.
The issue is in Brown’s shoulder and he will be placed on the injured reserve list, meaning he cannot return for four games at a minimum.
Reid said in his press conference: “It’s not going to be weeks, more like months.
“Everybody’s a little different, and this [injury], not a lot of these that we have information on, so we’ve just got to wait it out and see how long it takes.
“We’ll see where that takes us in this process. But that’s the information we have, and we’re just going to have to hold tight on that.”

Brown’s injury came on the first play of the Chiefs’ pre-season game against the Jacksonville Jaguars on 10 August.
He missed the opening night win in the NFL against the Baltimore Ravens and at one point looked set to return for the upcoming match against the Cincinnati Bengals this weekend.
But the decision has been taken to protect the receiver for the long term.
Writing on X, Brown said: “Disappointed, frustrated, and Sad was the first wave of emotions once I realized I would need surgery but that only lasted a day or so because Of my Faith in God.
“Knowing that this to shall pass, no matter the great opportunity I had in front of me. It’s not over and that’s not the path God wanted for me and I’m perfectly fine with that now.”
Brown’s absence means the Chiefs now have six wide receivers left on their roster.
Rashee Rice, Xavier Worthy, Justin Watson, JuJu Smith-Schuster, Mecole Hardman and Skyy Moore are still active.
It means the Super Bowl champions will likely not need to bring in a replacement for their free agent signing from the summer.
