Former New York Giants quarterback Daniel Jones is heading to the Minnesota Vikings, according to reports.
ESPN report that Jones has agreed to a one-year contract for the remainder of the 2024 season.
Jones, who became a free agent earlier this week after clearing waivers, was reportedly seeking a play-off-contending team.
The one-year deal, valued at $375,000, will see Jones begin on the Vikings’ practice squad.
This setup allows him to potentially move to another team if a starting quarterback vacancy arises over the next few weeks. He will be a free agent again at the end of the season.
Minnesota’s quarterback depth chart is damaged heading into 2025.
Rookie J.J. McCarthy, who was projected to be a key figure in their future plans, suffered a meniscus injury in the pre-season.

Veteran Sam Darnold, initially seen as a transitional option, has stepped into the starting role and excelled.
Leading the Vikings to a 9-2 record, Darnold has already set a personal best with 21 touchdown passes and could be in line for a lucrative contract during the offseason.
Adding Jones gives the Vikings an opportunity to evaluate him as a potential fit alongside McCarthy in 2025.
Vikings head coach Kevin O’Connell, widely respected for his work with quarterbacks, has a history of admiration for Jones.
He said:”I will say, tons of respect for Daniel Jones as a player and a person.
“Got to know him through the draft process years ago… I’ve been a big fan of Daniel’s for a long time, and I hope wherever his next step takes him, it’s a good opportunity for him.”
Jones leaves the Giants after six seasons as their primary quarterback. Drafted sixth overall in 2019, he posted a 22-44-1 record with 70 touchdowns and 47 interceptions during his tenure.
One of his standout performances came against the Vikings in the 2023 play-offs, where he threw for 301 yards and two touchdowns while rushing for 78 yards in a wild-card victory.
That game helped secure a four-year, $160 million extension with New York, signed before the 2023 season.
However, Jones’ time with the Giants ended on a mutual decision to part ways.
Following his benching last week, the team opted to release him to avoid the risk of an injury that could activate a 2025 salary guarantee.
