The New York Jets won their fourth game of the season after beating the lowly Jacksonville Jaguars 32-25.
Wide receiver Davante Adams played a huge role in the win. He finished the day with nine catches for 198 receiving yards, and two touchdowns. What’s even more impressive is that all of those receptions and yards came in the second half.
When speaking about Adams’ outstanding performance, Jacksonville Jaguars head coach Doug Pederson had only good things to say about the Jets’ wide receiver and the team’s starting quarterback, Aaron Rodgers.
“He’s a great receiver, ya know? Aaron [Rodgers] is a great quarterback. He’s a Hall of Fame quarterback,” Pederson said during the Jaguars’ post-game press conference. “They made plays that we didn’t make, and that part’s unfortunate… It comes down to just a couple of plays. Your season, or your game, or whatever could be a little different. But give credit. Those are two good players”
The Jets did end up with possession of the ball on Jacksonville’s one yard line with the score tied at 25 with just 1:08 left in the game. Though the Jets scored a touchdown on a one-yard rush by running back Breece Hall on the next play, Pederson said that he wanted to let the Jets score that touchdown so that Jacksonville could get the ball back with a chance to tie the game. He also admitted that he was surprised the Jets chose not to take a few knees at the one yard line to force the Jaguars to burn more timeouts.
“It’s a different philosophy,” Pederson explained. “In those situations, you kind of want them to score so that you can save time for your offense. Or, the other way is you knee it a couple of times and make me burn the two timeouts.”
The future is murky for Doug Pederson. Though he won a Super Bowl as the head coach of the Philadelphia Eagles, he has failed to help the Jaguars live up to their expectations coming into this year as they look poised to finish with one of the worst records in the AFC.
Many Jacksonville Jaguars fans on social media have been calling for Pederson to be fired ever since the Jags lost to the Detroit Lions 52-6. In all likelihood though, Jacksonville will let Pederson finish out this season as the head coach before firing him on Black Monday the day after the 2024-25 season ends.
