NFL round-up: Lions’ Hutchinson out for the season

A broken leg will keep Aidan Hutchinson out for the year but what else happened on Sunday?

Aidan Hutchinson

Aidan Hutchinson has been ruled out for the rest of the season with a sickening injury sustained in the Detroit Lions’ superb 47-9 win at Dallas Cowboys on Sunday night.

The NFL’s two remaining unbeaten sides – the Kansas City Chiefs and Minnesota Vikings – were both on a bye week this weekend.

So who stole the show?

Hutchinson break sours Lions dominance in Dallas

Defensive end Hutchinson has been brilliant all season for Detroit and was again dominating in Dallas when he broke his leg making a tackle.

The 24-year-old collided with a team-mate before falling to the ground in agony. The match was delayed by around 10 minutes as players from both teams encircled Hutchinson.

He has now had surgery and is expected to make a full recovery in time for the 2025 season.

“He’s a guy who’s part of the heartbeat of this team, he’s a leader, does everything right,” quarterback Jared Goff said.

“And to have him go down like that, and be visibly upset is tough for all of us. But knowing him, he will be fine. He will bounce back.”

Jackson stars again

Lamar Jackson is having another stellar year in Baltimore.

The two-time MVP threw for 323 yards and a touchdown, while Derrick Henry backed him up with two rushing TDs as the Ravens beat the ever-improving Washington Commands 30-23.

The Ravens have now won four in a row to top the AFC North and look like real contenders again.

“We have got so many guys that can make plays, a lot of guys are getting the chances, getting the ball and being able to showcase their talents,” Henry said.

“That’s what you want as an offense.”

Packers find their formula

Jordan Love’s four touchdown passes guided the Green Bay Packers to a 34-13 victory over the Arizona Cardinals.

Romeo Doubs caught two on his return to the team while Love also threw touchdown passes of five yards to Jayden Reed and 44 yards to Christian Watson while going 22 of 32 — completing throws to nine players — for 258 yards with one interception. His four touchdown passes matched a career high.

“We talked about coming into this game just playing four quarters of complementary football, and thought that was about as good as we could’ve done it,” Packers coach Matt LaFleur said.

“There’s always stuff that we can clean up, but I thought all in all, just the effort from start to finish, the focus from start to finish, was exactly what is a great formula for winning football.”
