NFL: Murray feels desire to win as pressure ramps up on Cardinals

The star quarterback wants to lead his team to the Super Bowl.

Arizona Cardinals' Kyler Murray

NFL and Arizona Cardinals star Kyler Murray says he feels a higher sense of urgency and desire to win in the new season.

The 26-year-old quarterback has only ever had one winning record in five years at the top level, in 2021 when they posted an 11-5 regular-season record but lost in the NFC wild-card round of the play-offs.

Having gone 7-0 in the first half of the season, the Cardinals collapsed to forfeit the NFC West title and they have not been back at their early 2021 season levels since.

In 2023, Murray had to deal with an ACL injury, resulting in the franchise posting a 4-13 record.

But he has not given up his dream of winning a Super Bowl ring and a week into the training camp, he says he feels a different kind of atmosphere around the facilities.

He said: “Last year was just such a whirlwind for me as far as being hurt and then rehabbing the whole year, coming back in the middle of the season, which I’ve never done before.

“And then again, as far as the play goes, having to get better each and every week again, and then feel like getting in the groove of things, and it kind of not really mean anything, but for me it meant something internally, but I think this year just getting to start off fresh, it is a big difference.”

The Cardinals drafted top wide receiver Marvin Harrison Jr. in the summer and look much better equipped to challenge in the NFC, especially with Murray at full fitness.

He says the sky is the limit in Arizona and refused to put any stopper on how far they can go.

Murray added: “I don’t put any limitation on what this offense can be or do,” he said.

“I think we’re very versatile, got great skill set as far as receivers or running backs, again, me coming back healthy, I don’t feel like I even scratched the surface of what I’m capable of as far as moving around being a dual threat on the field at the back end of the season.

“So, like I said, I don’t put any limitation on what we can do.

“We want to hit the ground running.

“We are not coming out this season, despite what everybody thinks or what they’re saying, we know we want to do in this locker room, so, in order to do that, you got to put the work in.”
