NFL: MVP Lamar Jackson shreds weight ahead of new season

The Baltimore Ravens quarterback is gearing up for the new season.

Baltimore Ravens' Lamar Jackson

Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson has shredded the weight ahead of the new NFL season.

The reigning Most Valuable Player is gearing up to go again on the East Coast but was unhappy with his physique this summer.

But after training camp, the 27-year-old is now weighing at 30 pounds less than in 2022, at around 200 pounds.

Speaking to CBS Sports, he explained: “I was fat, to me. I felt like I was fat.

“I just saw a video from two years ago [against] the Browns and I looked out of shape. But I was in shape.

“My eyes may be deceiving me, but I believe I looked a little slower to me.

“I don’t like getting caught if I do decide to run.”

Jackson’s standards are incredibly high and he still led the NFL as the most prolific running QB last season.

He has gained 5,258 yards across his first six seasons, 1,399 more than any other player in his position.

His fastest speed clocked was 13.73mph in 2019, but he has been unable to hit that pace recently.

With his new method of trimming down, Jackson will be hoping to score more touchdowns and gain even more yards during the upcoming season that will see the Ravens as one of the favourites for the Super Bowl.
