While speaking to members of the media at the NFL’s Annual League Meeting, Pittsburgh Steelers owner Art Rooney II said that the team is getting “positive signals” when it comes to the organization’s pursuit of former Green Bay Packers and New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers.

“We keep hearing that he’s – I guess – headed in our direction,” Rooney said on Tuesday. “That seems to be all signs are positive so far.”

Rooney added that it was good that Rodgers recently had a throwing session with wide receiver DK Metcalf, who was traded to the Pittsburgh Steelers from the Seattle Seahawks in exchange for a second-round pick.

“I would say it was a good sign that he wanted to do that,” Rooney said. “We keep getting positive sort of signals about it.”

That throwing session came a little less than two weeks after Rodgers visited the Pittsburgh Steelers’ facility, according to the NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero. Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin believed it was a good visit.

“As you guys know, he came to visit last Friday. We had a really productive day,” Tomlin said on Monday at the NFL’s Annual League Meeting. “He’s been in this thing a long time. I’ve been in this thing a long time. But there’s no substitute for intimacy and spending time together and getting to know one another in a non-competitive environment, so that was really good.”

Art Rooney also felt that the visit went well.

“It was good to meet him,” he said. “We talked about Pittsburgh and all the Pittsburgh coaches he’s had over the years… So yeah, we had a good conversation.”

Rooney did say that he hopes he doesn’t have to wait much longer before getting a decision from the four-time MVP. Although, he explained that he’d be content to wait “a little while longer.”

“I didn’t envision it taking this long,” Rooney said. “Hopefully, we’ll know something soon… The door’s still open, and we’ll see what happens.”
