Atlanta Falcons coach Raheem Morris was left “really proud” after his team secured their first win of the 2024 NFL season in dramatic style with a late 22-21 win at the Philadelphia Eagles.

Drake London touched down with 38 seconds remaining to level the score before Younghoe Koo kicked the extra point at Lincoln Financial Field.

“We saved just enough time for those guys to get that game-winning touchdown,” said Morris. “That was well-managed by the coaching staff and players.

“All the credit goes to those guys in the offense. We talked about operation, we talked about communication, and that was the highest level of it on both sides of the ball, all phases of the game.

“It was a lot of fun. That team is special and means a lot to me. We knew if we could hold them… we’d have a chance. I’m really proud about that.”

Eagles vs Falcons

The Eagles had a 97.6% chance of winning before London’s last-gasp heroic intervention, according to analytics produced by ESPN.

“We can’t go out there and miss cues or anything like that,” wide receiver London told the outlet. “We just didn’t blink as often.

“We knew what time it was. It was an opportunity to go out there and win the game. You play all the way down to zero. We took advantage of a mistake and scored.

“In that moment, once I made my move and was open, it was just about catching the ball and ‘let’s go’. It was good to silence a crowd like this.”

Falcons off mark in NFL

The Falcons had made an inauspicious start to the season with an 18-10 defeat at home to the Pittsburgh Steelers. “We didn’t play well in offense last week,” said Morris.

“I was very clear about that. We played a lot better today and Drake played a big part in that. So did a bunch of other people, whether it’s Bijan [Robinson], Tyler Allgeier, all the guys giving their best efforts and looking forward.

“That’s what you’ve got to do: get better and better every time you go out. Drake’s just great and we’re glad he’s on our football team.”
