Potential no.1 pick Abdul Carter facing prospect of foot surgery

Penn State star Abdul Carter is mulling surgery on a foot injury but remains confident he will still be taken first in the NFL draft.

Carter has a stress fracture in his right foot and his agent Drew Rosenhaus told ESPN the player could either have surgery now and return in eight weeks or rest up and hope the issue heals by the time of his pro day on March 28.

Either scenario carries risks ahead of the draft in late April.

“There are mixed opinions on whether he needs surgery, and we will figure that out in the near future,” said Rosenhaus from the scouting combine in Indianapolis.

“Either way, worst-case scenario, we don’t expect this to impact where he is drafted. After visiting with teams this week, I believe he’s going to be the number one overall pick.”

Carter currently sidelined with a shoulder problem

Pass rusher Carter was not expected to work out in Indianapolis anyway due to a shoulder injury and he is not overly concerned by the latest setback regarding his foot.

He said: “I feel like I’m the best player in the country and the best player should be picked first.

“It’s the work I put in with my dad, who trained me, and all the sacrifices I made, I know I’m the best.”
