Baltimore Ravens have suspended wide receiver Diontae Johnson for one game for “refusing to enter our game against Philadelphia Eagles” on Sunday.
Johnson will now miss Baltimore’s Week 15 game against the New York Giants after the upcoming bye week.
Eyebrows were raised when the 28-year-old was absent from the Ravens’ 24-19 loss despite being without the injured Rashod Bateman with Tylan Wallace.
“We have made the difficult decision to suspend Diontae Johnson for our upcoming game against the New York Giants for conduct detrimental to the team,” Ravens general manager Eric DeCosta said in a statement on Wednesday.
“We will have no further comments on this matter going forward.”
Baltimore head coach John Harbaugh remained vague on the matter when asked about it Monday, telling The Athletic: “At this time, I’m going to have to wait.
“There are some moving parts there that we’re going to have to figure out and explore and see where we’re at. It’s the best I can do in fairness to everybody.”
Baltimore acquired Johnson via a trade with the Carolina Panthers during the 2024 season, sending a conditional Day 3 pick to Carolina in return.
He caught 30 passes for 357 yards for the Panthers and had previously spent five years with the Pittsburgh Steelers, with the move looking like a smart one by the Ravens.
But Johnson has registered just one catch for six yards in five games with the Ravens, with his suspension another setback in his career with the play-off chasers.
