San Francisco 49ers rookie Ricky Pearsall is in a “serious but stable’ condition after being shot while he was being robbed.

The incident took place at the corner of Geary and Grant streets, not long after Pearsall had been signing autographs at an event in the city.

The suspect attempted to rob Pearsall and an altercation ensued in which the 23-year-old sustained a single shot to the chest.

Pearsall and the suspect, a 17-year-old from Tracy, California, are both being treated at San Francisco General Hospital.

A statement from the 49ers read: “San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Ricky Pearsall was the victim of an attempted robbery and shooting this afternoon.

“He sustained a bullet wound to his chest and is in serious but stable condition. We ask that you please respect his privacy at this time. Our thoughts and prayers are with Ricky and the entire Pearsall family.”

Pearsall was drafted 31st overall in the 2024 draft and was expected to be one of the rookies to watch in this upcoming season.

He had been dealing with a shoulder injury during the preseason but returned to practice this week.
