Xavier Worthy misses third straight day of practice with the Kansas City Chiefs

Worthy has strep throat and is continuing his isolation

Kansas City Chiefs

Xavier Worthy missed a third straight day of practice with the Kansas City Chiefs today with his comeback from strep throat taking longer than expected.

The condition is not a major concern for the Chiefs although Worthy is already playing catch up to an extent after sitting out much of the team’s off-season practice due to a hamstring problem.

Coach Andy Reid said yesterday: “Xavier Worthy is ill. He’s getting better but not ready to practice yet.”

His absence is also a frustration for quarterback Patrick Mahomes who had shown very early signs of chemistry with the Chiefs’ first-round draft pick.

Worthy raised excitement levels in KC by collecting a long Mahomes pass in an 11 v 11 game during the team’s first full practice session over the weekend.

But their on-field relationship will have to wait a little longer with only one part of the duo practising today.

Reid, meanwhile, was refusing to speculate on who will win out at left tackle for the defending Super Bowl champions with Wanya Morris and Kingsley Suamataia vying for the spot.

He said: “We’ll just see how it goes.

“You obviously want to get the guys reps in there and all that, but you also want to make sure you get the best guy in there.

“So, you give them a chance to play with one another as far as the guards and tackles go and see what the best match is there and how they fit together.”
