Rome Flynn called winning the Most Valuable Player (MVP) award at the 2025 NBA Celebrity All Star Game “amazing” after helping baseball legend Barry Bonds’ team beat opponents coached by NFL icon Jerry Rice at the Oakland Arena.

Actor Flynn said he had spent “a lot” of time in the gym in the build-up to an instrumental part in his team’s 66-55 victory that included 22 points, eight rebounds and five assists.

“Shout out to my team-mates – they were looking for me before the game, they said ‘we want you to get the MVP’,” the 33-year-old told ESPN.

“I’m a selfless guy; I want to win and they put the ball in my hands. This is amazing, this is incredible. This is going next to every award I ever got, for sure.”

NBA All Star Game

Three-time Super Bowl champion Rice playfully taunted Bonds over the lack of team honours he won during his storied MLB career.

When Rice asked Bonds how many rings he had, the 14-time MLB All Star joked “I have two divorce rings” before the pair shared a high-five.

“I’m a hometown boy – we just rented him,” Bonds said, pointing at Rice. “We borrowed Jerry. He’s not from the Bay Area. I’m from the Bay Area.”

The game is part of a weekend of NBA festivities taking part in the region as part of an All Star Weekend including an All Star Game on Sunday.

Shaquille O’Neal, Charles Barkley and Kenny Smith each picked an eight-player squad for the contest, featuring the likes of LeBron James, Steph Curry and Nikola Jokic.
