Kevin Durant admits Suns ’embarrassed ourselves’ in Timberwolves defeat

The Phoenix Suns were hopeless in defeat to the Minnesota Timberwolves, and Kevin Durant was not impressed

Kevin Durant did not hold back when asked to assess the Phoenix Suns’ latest embarrassment.

The Suns were beaten 116-98 at home by the Minnesota Timberwolves with the patience of the home fans finally cracking as boos were heard ringing around the Footprint Center in the final quarter.

It was the Suns’ 11th defeat in 14 games and they now sit at 28-33 for the season.

Kevin Durant demands more from struggling Suns

“We didn’t play up to our standards at all,” said All-Star forward Durant. “We embarrassed the fans and we embarrassed ourselves the way we played. I want us to be better.”

The Suns are four games behind the Dallas Mavericks for the final spot in the Western Conference play-in tournament and coach Mike Budenholzer admits the situation is getting desperate.

He said: ”We’ve got to go on a run, but it’s got to start. There’s no doubt that the standings, the circumstances that we’re in, there’s an awareness and we’ve got to do something to change it.”

Edwards stars for Minnesota

More worryingly for Budenholzer was the team’s lack of fight in the final quarter as the Timberwolves cruised to a win on the back of 44 points from Anthony Edwards.

Their malaise was summed up by the Suns recording 22 turnovers.

“When adversity hits, we start floating a little as a team,” Durant said. “That’s tough to deal with.

“Forty points off turnovers, tough to overcome that. They didn’t overpower us on the glass, we just gave them the ball.”
