NBA round-up: LeBron stars from range as Lakers win again

The Lakers lead the Western Conference Pacific as their winning run continues.

LeBron James

NBA superstar LeBron James scored 38 points and Max Christie hit a career-high 28 as the Los Angeles Lakers overcame Anthony Davis’ absence for a 114-106 victory over the Portland Trail Blazers on Thursday night.

James, who turned 40 on 30 December, hit a season-high seven three-pointers and Christie added five for the Lakers, who have won six of their last eight.

Davis sat out for only the second time this season to rest his sprained left ankle, which the star man hurt over Christmas.

James is applauding the decision made by his son, Bryce, to play basketball at the University of Arizona next season.

The top scorer in NBA history has been joined at the Lakers by son Bronny this season and could have another child in the NBA soon.

“It was his decision to make, and he went where he felt comfortable,” LeBron said. “Coach (Tommy) Lloyd is a straight shooter. He gave him exactly what they believe (about) him, what they thought about him as a person, as a player. We’re happy to be part of the Bear Down community now.”

Curry on point for the Warriors

Steph Curry made all eight of his three-point attempts as the Golden State Warriors beat the Philadelphia 76ers 139-105.

Golden State led 35-19 after the first quarter and extended a 16-point halftime lead to 25 at the end of the third quarter.

Curry had 24 points by halftime after going six for six from range, while Jonathan Kuminga added 20 points off the bench.

Curry played through a right thumb sprain with tape on his right hand.

Meanwhile Jayson Tatum had 33 points, nine assists and eight rebounds for the Boston Celtics as the champions beat the Minnesota Timberwolves 118-115.

Derrick White scored 26 points for Boston, while Sam Hauser — filling in for the injured Jaylen Brown — hit five three-pointers and scored 15 points.

The Timberwolves trailed by eight with two minutes to play but they had a chance to send it into overtime. However, Anthony Edwards’ three-pointer fell short at the buzzer.
