Steph Curry is set to miss two games for the Golden State Warriors after suffering an ankle injury against the Los Angeles Clippers on Sunday.
The star guard will miss the Warriors’ back-to-back games against the New Orleans Pelicans on Tuesday and Wednesday after sustaining a peroneal strain in his left foot, with no structual damage detected.
Curry will be re-assessed on Friday along with off guard De’Anthony Melton, the Warriors said in a statement on Monday.
Coach Steve Kerr said after Sunday’s 112-104 loss: “I think [our depth] is the strength of this roster, but now we’ve got to back it up and I’m excited to give these guys on the bench more opportunity.”
The 36-year-old has a long history with ankle injuries so the Warriors are likely to take a cautious approach to their star man’s injury, especially so early in the NBA season.
After the Pelicans, Warriors next face Houston Rockets on Saturday with Curry to be assessed before that game.
Curry first limped out of the game in the third quarter, when he receieved treatment for a twisted ankle.
He then returned to the game four minutes into the fourth quarter but immediately pulled up again and had to be helped to the dresssing room by team-mate Gary Peyton.
The two-time MVP and NBA all-time 3-point leader finished with 18 points, six assists and four rebounds, shooting 6 for 11 with four 3-pointers.
