Shai Gilgeous-Alexander was the headline act once again for the Oklahoma City Thunder

Oklahoma City Thunder star Shai Gilgeous-Alexander

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander’s hot streak continued as he poured in 51 points in the Oklahoma City Thunder’s 137-128 win over the Houston Rockets.

Gilgeous-Alexander has now scored 50 points or more four times in the past seven weeks to extend his advantage as the leading scorer in the NBA.

He had not achieved the feat in his first 397 games but has now managed it four times in 19. Against the Rockets, he enjoyed 18-of-30 shooting, including five three pointers, as well as 10 points from the free throw line.

His efforts saw the Thunder improve to 50-11 at the top of the Western Conference.

All about the W – Gilgeous-Alexander

“You can say it’s not as exciting as the first one, but it’s more like getting lost in the process of just competing and playing the game you love,” Gilgeous-Alexander said. “And then wherever that takes you, it takes you.

“Whether it’s 50, whether it’s 27, whether it’s 17 – as long as we win, I have fun with it. It’s a fun night.

“You play the game to win. Like, you don’t play the game to score a bunch of points. You don’t play the game to get a bunch of rebounds or assists or steals. … You don’t play for anything besides to win, and that’s what it’s all about.”

Daigneault heaps praise on Gilgeous-Alexander

Thunder coach Mark Daigneault was full of praise for his new-found superstar.

He said: ”I just think he’s got an unbelievable pace to him right now. Where he’s finding his stuff, he’s attacking and really hitting the gas on some plays, and then there’s other plays where he’s just letting the defense tell him what to do and moving it to his teammates and it’s allowing for the rest of the team to play really well at the same time as him. So, he deserves a lot of credit.”
