NBA All-Star Game Most Valuable Player (MVP) Steph Curry has joked that his lack of knowledge cost him when he was given an eight-second penalty on his way to winning the showpiece with the OGs.

Point guard Curry scored 12 points in a 41-25 win over the Global Stars in the final at San Francisco’s Chase Center on Sunday.

“I didn’t know the rules,” Curry said afterwards, adding that the All-Star Weekend in the Bay Area was “a celebration of a lot of great things happening in basketball”.

“A lot of history has happened out here but the competition, camaraderie and legacy that we all create is what it’s all about.”

Curry became temporary team-mates with the likes of new Dallas Mavericks signing Anthony Davis and the Phoenix Suns’ Kevin Durant on a team coached by three-time All-Star Game MVP Shaquille O’Neal.

The 36-year-old has been with San Francisco team the Golden State Warriors since 2009, winning the NBA title four times and competition MVP accolade twice.

He previously became the All-Star MVP in 2022, with the 2020 game the only edition of the last 12 in which he has not featured.

NBA All Star Game ‘awesome’

“The hosting experience was unbelievable,” said Curry. “I’m not going to complain about being tired or exhausted.

“This is an honor and a blessing to be able to celebrate and share this beautiful Bay Area that’s been a part of my life for the last 16 years.

“[The event is about the] basketball history and culture that’s here and the amazing fans that are here and the impact that the game being here has had on both cities. It was awesome from start to finish.”

The OGs beat Candace’s Rising All Stars in their first game of the day, reaching the final with the help of eight points from Curry.

The Global Stars, who were selected by 11-time All Star Charles Barkley, beat two-time NBA champion Kenny Smith’s Young Stars in their initial match.
