Copa América 2024: Paraguay v Brazil – Preview, predictions, picks, offers and odds

Dorival Junior's side seek to click into gear after opening round stalemate

Match Preview

Brazil will seek to kick their Copa America campaign into gear when they face Paraguay in Las Vegas in the early hours of Saturday (2am BST).

Head coach Dorival Junior saw his star-studded squad fire blanks in their Group D opener against Costa Rica in Los Angeles, dominating possession and mustering 19 shots on goal, yet failing to find a breakthrough.

It was just the fourth time Brazil had failed to score against Concacaf opposition in the Copa America and the first in 17 years.

Ballon d’Or favourite Vinicius Jr was subbed with 19 minutes remaining but teenage prodigy Endrick was unable to find a breakthrough either.

Paraguay went down 2-1 in their opening game against Colombia, who can seal progress with a win over Costa Rica in Arizona in Friday’s earlier kick-off.

Failure to beat Paraguay in the Allegiant Stadium would leave Brazil in the tricky situation of having to beat Colombia in their final game to stand a chance of qualifying for the last-eight.

Paraguay defended doggedly in the first half of their game against Colombia with two deep-lying banks across the pitch, and Brazil can expect more of the same here.

They have not lost back-to-back games in 90 minutes at the Copa America since 2016. Brazil can go one better having not dropped points in consecutive group games since that same year.
