Daniel Dubois: ‘I’ll fight Usyk or Joshua, whoever pays me the most’

Daniel Dubois says he would “love a rematch” against either Oleksandr Usyk or Anthony Joshua – depending on “whoever pays me the most”.

Dubois retained his IBF world heavyweight title with a stunning demolition of Joshua at Wembley on Saturday, knocking the two-time world champion to the floor four times before sealing victory in the fifth round.

After the defeat, Joshua has indicated that his own personal boxing journey is not over yet, with fellow Brit Tyson Fury and Usyk – who go to battle in a rematch in December – also touted as options for Dubois.

The 27-year-old’s promoter Frank Warren says there is no specific clause in his contract for a rematch with Joshua but suggested the two could clash again if the right deal was agreed.

Usyk will fight Fury on December 21 for the WBA, WBO and WBC belts.

“I would love a rematch, but either one [Joshua or Usyk] really – whoever pays me the most,” Dubois said on talkSPORT.

Speaking about the possibility of facing Joshua again, Dubois said: “Yeah, if that happens down the line then yes. If that happens next then yeah. I want to go for it.

“I want to do it even better next time. I know where I need to improve as well, so as a champion and as a fighter I just want to prove people wrong every time and that is what we have been doing.

“I think I would be a lot better than that (last fight). It was a great show, a Rocky-type fight, but next time I believe I will be more clinical, more sharp, everything better.”

Joshua: My journey is far from over

Joshua endured a crushing night at Wembley, with calls for the 34-year-old to retire coming his way in the aftermath of the fight.

But the former champion has since taken to social media to suggest he is not thinking about hanging up the gloves any time soon.

He said in a video on X: “We came up short but we have got to look at the positives and that’s the perspective we have to have: a positive one, always.

“Look at what we’ve achieved in the space of 11 years, it’s phenomenal and I want to thank every single one of you that’s been riding with me.

“What a rollercoaster journey, but do you know what the problem is? It is far from over yet. We’ve done it once, we’ve done it twice, doing it a third time hasn’t been easy but I believe it is something I can achieve.

“It’s about making the right steps forward, working hard, improving and it has to come from here [gestures to his heart] more than anything.

“It’s only been a day but I know when I sit back I know I’ve got a lot of this [heart]. Thanks for your support, thanks for being on this rollercoaster journey with me.

“Keep your seatbelts tight because deep down in here I know we have a lot more to bring to this game. British boxing I appreciate you and let’s rise up together, let’s go.”
