Floyd Mayweather ‘grateful’ on arrival in Mexico for John Gotti boxing rematch

Floyd Mayweather has danced with a group of Mariachi musicians who played for the boxing great as he arrived in Mexico for his rematch with John Gotti III.

Fifty fights undefeated during his professional career, Mayweather is heading to Mexico City’s Arena CDMX for his latest exhibition bout, where he will meet John Gotti III after a chaotic contest between the pair in June 2023.

“I am very grateful to be [in] a place full of history and world champions,” said the 47-year-old five-division titlist.

“It is an honour for me to fight in this country that has given so much to the world of boxing. See you soon in the ring.”

In scenes familiar to fans who have watched Mayweather in exhibition bouts, the American toyed with Gotti during their first fight in Florida.

Tensions had been boiling before the showdown of eight two-minute rounds, spilling over into mass brawls when the fight was waved off in the sixth.

Mayweather is now said to be looking to “vanquish” Gotti, who has two wins from two as a professional and is the grandson of notorious mob boss John Gotti.

In all countries outside of Mexico, the rematch between Mayweather and Gotti III will be available on DAZN pay-per-view.

The broadcast is available on a range of devices and costs $49.99 in the US or £19.99 in the UK.

What time is Mayweather vs Gotti III?

The card is due to start at 7.30pm ET on Saturday, August 24 in the US, which is 12.30am on Sunday, August 25 in the UK.

The main event ringwalks will start at approximately 11.06pm ET on Saturday, or 4.06am on Sunday in the UK.
