Tyus Jones has said the Phoenix Suns have a “special” team and a “real opportunity” to win the NBA title after joining them on a one-year deal reportedly worth $3.3 million.
Point guard Jones was impressed by governor Mat Ishbia and coach Mike Budenholzer, who he said has told him he will start and “significantly impact” their Western Conference campaign.
“The chance to play for the Phoenix Suns made the most sense on a lot of levels to me and my family,” the 28-year-old told ESPN.

Phoenix Suns: NBA team sign Jones
“My agent walked me and my family through multiple free-agent offers and sign-and-trade proposals at a number of different financial levels,” added Jones.
“The Suns’ opportunity is where I can best maximise my value for a return to free agency next year, as well as give myself a chance to be part of what I think will be a special team and season.”
The Suns’ purported offer is said to have been been a veteran minimum contract. Kevin Durant, Bradley Beal and Devin Booker are thought to be among their highest earners.
Tyus Jones deserves not only to be on an NBA roster but also to start & lead an elite offense.

Tyus Jones stats
Jones averaged 12 points and 7.3 assists in 66 appearances in 2023 for the Washington Wizards, who he spent a season with after four years with the Memphis Grizzlies.
A haul of 13 points, 11 assists and 10 rebounds against the Indiana Pacers in December was among his highlights during Jones’ time with Washington, having posted his first triple-double for the Grizzlies in March 2023.
He reached the play-offs in successive seasons with Memphis between 2021 and 2023, following up his sole previous appearance with first team the Minnesota Timberwolves, who were linked with a move for Jones earlier this year.
Jones has spent most of his career coming off the bench and may have found his options increasingly limited, with little sign of interest in a sign-and-trade deal on his terms.
Should his predictions for the Suns prove true, Jones will likely have more suitors next year if he establishes himself as a key figure.
Jones’ brother, Tre, is also an NBA point guard and former USA youth international. The 24-year-old has played for San Antonio Spurs since 2020.
