Paralympics 2024 schedule: Dates, TV channel, live stream for Paris Games in the US on NBC

USA 100m T64 and 400m T6 star Hunter Woodhall has told fans to “see what the human body is capable of”when the Paralympics 2024 start this week.

Woodhall is one of more than 4,400 athletes from around the world taking part in the first ever edition of the Games to be held in France.

“A lot of the moments that went viral in the Olympics were filled with emotion and you can see that happiness, excitement and dedication that goes into winning,” Woodhall told the Paralympics website.

“You see those moments come to life and it will be the same for the Paralympics. There will be some awesome athletic moments and also some emotional moments as well.”

When is the Paralympics 2024 opening ceremony?

Four-time Paralympian Steve Serio and 2016 Paralympic champion Nicky Nieves will lead Team USA at the opening ceremony, which starts at 2pm ET on August 28.

The ceremony will take place at the Place de la Concorde and the Champs Elysses and is expected to be attended in person by at least 50,000 fans.

“I’m overwhelmed and honoured,” said wheelchair basketball legend Serio. “I never thought this would be something that I’d get to experience in my career.

“I want to say thank you to all the Team USA athletes – I’ll represent you to the best of my ability and I love you all. The Paralympic Movement has meant everything to me… hopefully I’ll make my country proud and I can’t wait to represent you all at the front of the pack at the Opening Ceremony.”

There will be 549 medal events across 22 Para sports during almost two weeks of action at the Paralympics, which will head to Los Angeles for the next edition.

How to watch Paralympics 2024: US TV channel

NBC says it will broadcast the most streaming hours ever for a Paralympic event for this edition, with approximately 1,500 hours of live coverage.

More than 140 hours will be shown on live TV across NBC, USA Network and CNBC. Gold Zone and Multiview – two of the features of Peacock’s coverage of the Paris Olympic Games – will make their Paralympic Games debut.

When is the Paralympics 2024 closing ceremony?

The closing ceremony will take place at 2pm on September 8 at the Stade de France and will reflect the vision of artistic director Thomas Jolly.

Team USA’s tally of 104 medals put them fourth overall at the Tokyo Games in 2021, with their 37 gold medals the third-most of any country. China led the way with 207 medals, including 96 gold.
