Paris 2024: USA women win eighth straight basketball gold after thrilling 67-66 win over France

USA edged a tense gold medal match in Paris

Team USA

Team USA collected their eighth consecutive women’s basketball gold medal after beating hosts France 67-66.

The win also draws the Americans level with China at the top of the medal table for most gold medals, with the USA also finishing the Paris Games with the most medals of any nation.

But the victory was no stroll for the star-studded US side, with the home-backed French who put in a battling display.

The USA trailed by 10 points at the start of the third quarter but were able to use their experience to see the game through.

A stunning three-pointer from France’s Gabby Williams reduced the deficit to just one point in the final seconds but the Americans were able to secure yet another gold.

It comes just a day after the USa triumphed in the men’s basketball after a stunning comeback win over Serbia.
