Wilfried Zaha has joined Major League Soccer club Charlotte FC on loan until January 2026, with the option to extend until June 2026.

The former Crystal Palace forward has been on loan at Lyon from Galatasaray this season but has made just six appaearances, with five of those coming from the bench.

Zaha, 32, will fill a designated player spot – a rule which allows clubs to sign three players outsite their normal salary allowance –and will work former Aston Villa manager Dean Smith.

Charlotte general manager Zoran Krneta said: “His performances in the Premier League and on the international level speak for themselves and we are confident that Wilfred can make an immediate impact in Major League Soccer.

“He provides valuable versatility in the attacking areas of the pitch and adds that little bit of magic to our front line that can help us win more games.

“We are delighted to add a player of Wilfred’s pedigree and experience to our squad, and we’re excited to welcome him to Charlotte.”

Zaha had been linked with a return to Palace last summer but reported tax issues complicated the move.

The Eagles academy graduate made 458 appearances for the South Lonndon club, the third-most in their history, and scored 90 goals.

He departed Selhurst Park 18 months ago to chase his dream to play in the Champions League, which he did at Galatasaray.

The winger made 43 appearances for the Turkish side last season, scoring 10 goals and providing five assists as they won the league.
