Chicago Fire are reportedly in talks over a surprise move to bring Brazilian superstar Neymar to MLS.
Neymar, 32, is out of contract at Al-Hilal in the summer after two years in the Saudi Pro League following his move from Paris Saint-Germain.
The BBC say Eastern Conference side Fire have the financial capabilities to get the deal done and remain in talks with the Pro League and Neymar’s representatives.
But a deal is thought to be far from done and remains complicated.
Neymar will not be registered for the second half of the Saudi Pro League season and it remains up to him where he plays his football next.
Fire had Neymar on their Discovery List. MLS clubs can have up to five players on their list, meaning no other side in the league can speak to, or sign, Neymar unless Chicago agree.
The forward has made only seven appearances for Al-Hilal since signing for a record £77million in 2023 afer struggling with injury.
He tore his anterior cruciate ligament in October 2023, which kept him out for a year.
Al-Hilal: ‘Neymar can no longer play at level we are used to’
Al-Hilal manager Jorge Jesus says Neymar’s injuries means he is no longer up to the standard needed so have left him out of their Saudi Pro League squad, meaning he can only play Asian Champions League between now and the end of the season.
Jesus said: “The Saudi League is one of the best leagues in the world. All Al-Hilal players can play for any club in Europe.
“Neymar can no longer play at the level we are used to. Things have become difficult for him, unfortunately. He is still under contract with Al-Hilal and it may be up to him to decide his future.
“It depends on the administration. I don’t know anything about Neymar’s future. We have a place available on the list, reserved for a player born in 2003 or later.”
