Wrexham boss Phil Parkinson is hoping to persuade co-owner Rob McElhenney to part with more money for new signings as the Welsh club gear up for life in League One.
Parkinson’s men are in North America for a pre-season tour and face the daunting challenge of taking on Premier League side Chelsea tonight in Santa Clara, California.
Wrexham have gone from the National League to the third tier of English football in just two years under the stewardship of McElhenney and his fellow owner Ryan Reynolds but that brings challenges in terms of bolstering the squad with more quality.

Parkinson said: “Rob [McEhenney] and [advisor to the board] Shaun Harvey flew in yesterday so it is a great chance to review the squad.
“Can we add a little bit of quality? We are speaking to a few players while we are out here. Hopefully we will make the right decisions to take us into the season.”
Wrexham have already made several additions over the offseason with Arthur Okonkwo, Lewis Brunt, George Dobson, Callum Burton and Sebastian Revan all joining.
And Parkinson is happy with how they’ve integrated ahead of their season-opener against Wycombe Wanderers on August 10.
He added: “Arthur was with us on loan last season and knew us anyway but the new signings have fitted in well with the group.
“There is nothing better when you are a new signing to get to know your team-mates on a tour like this.
“The squad is not there yet but hopefully we are getting there.”
Dobson loving life at Wrexham
As is the case with most players that join Wrexham and get to understand their unusual status, Dobson is relishing the new experiences on the tour of the US.
The former Sunderland and Charlton midfielder told the club’s YouTube channel: “It is another amazing game.
“A brilliant experience to be able to play against these Premier League teams and visit new places.
“Another great test against Chelsea and there will be even more support, I am really looking forward to it.”
