Wrexham’s bid to win promotion from League One has taken a hit with the news midfielder George Evans is set for a lengthy spell on the sidelines after he damaged ankle ligaments.
Evans, 29, sustained the injury in Tuesday’s 1-0 defeat at Stevenage, a result that saw the North Wales club slip five points behind table-toppers Birmingham City, who are minority owned by Tom Brady.
Wrexham boss Phil Parkinson said: “George’s injury looks a serious one which is a shame for him.
“He had a bit of a disjointed start to the season and just got himself back in good shape ready to compete for his place.
“It was an innocuous incident, the lad has almost fallen on him and we really feel for George.
“All we can do is get the operation done as quickly as possible and give him the best rehab going forward.
“What we’ve been told is the surgeon, when he has a look inside, will understand the extent of the damage more so they don’t want to put a timescale on it until the operation. But it will be months with George.”
Some of these finishes 👌

Better news on Cleworth
There was better news on defender Max Cleworth, who also sustained ankle ligament damage during last weekend’s goalless draw at Leyton Orient.
“George’s is a lot more serious than Max,” added Parkinson.
“We are just waiting for the swelling to go down with Max before we can give a definitive timescale on when he will be back.”
Wrexham are back in action tomorrow when Northampton Town visit the Racecourse Ground. They have a 100 per cent record on home turf after winning all four league games so far this season.
Parkinson said: “We are pleased with the start to the season we’ve made at home, we have been good and we are looking forward to continuing that.
“We always respect the opposition. Northampton have had a couple of bad results at home but it is about us regrouping and resetting as a team after the defeat on Tuesday.”
