Surprise US Open 2024 semi-finalist Jack Draper has been sent a good luck message by Manchester United before the Red Devils fan takes on world number one Jannik Sinner for a place in the final.

Twenty-time Premier League champions United posted their support on X – formerly Twitter – little more than an hour before Draper was due on court for the biggest match of his career.

The club shared a photo of Draper and veteran goalkeeper Tom Heaton when they met at the Davis Cup finals in Manchester last year, when 2012 US Open champion Andy Murray was among the Briton’s team-mates.

Jack Draper: Man United ‘watching intently’

“The 22-year-old hails from Surrey and is a big Manchester United fan, watching us play whenever he has a spare moment between matches,” United said on Thursday.

“The pair shared a brief conversation about the two sports as they were also pictured together and we’re sure that Tom – as well as everyone at United – will be watching Jack intently as he aims to make history.”

US Open: Draper vs Sinner

World number 25 Draper has gone beyond the fourth round of a Grand Slam for the first time in spectacular fashion at Flushing Meadows.

A straight-sets victory over 10th seed Alex de Minaur on Wednesday ensured he is yet to drop a set at the final major of the year.

Australian Open champion Sinner is the favourite but Draper has said he can improve even further as he bids to emulate British sporting legend Murray’s achievement.

The winner is certain to face an American in Sunday’s final, with Taylor Fritz and Frances Tiafoe contesting the other match in the final four on Saturday.
